Erythropoietin (EPO) is a hormone produced by the kidneys which controls red blood cells production. This test is performed to see if EPO is causing anemia or causing elevated production of RBC, to evaluate the kidneys' ability to produce sufficient EPO for people with chronic kidney disease (CKD) or to identify a bone marrow disorder or kidney disease.

Specimen should be collected between 7:30 am - noon.
