Lipoproteins are responsible for the transport and metabolism of cholesterol. Recent research suggests that elevated blood levels of Lipoprotein(a) [(Lp(a)] may be an important marker for the risk of developing heart disease. This test measures for concentrations of Lp(a) and is used to assess increased risk of coronary artery disease.
