For men, this test is used to evaluate sperm count and helpful with diagnosing primary testicular failure. Children may also be tested when they are not entering puberty at an appropriate age, either too early or too late. Luteinizing hormone (LH) is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland in both men and women. In women, LH regulates menstrual cycle and egg production. In men, LH stimulates the production of testosterone which is related to sperm production.
