Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) is a hormone produced by the adrenal glands which is a precursor to the sex hormones estrogen and testosterone. When a woman shows signs/symptoms of a deeper voice, excess facial/body hair, muscularity, acne, decreased breast sizes, etc., this test may be used. This test is also used when young boys have signs of puberty well before normal puberty age.
