Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland in both women and men. For women, this test is often used to evaluate egg supply. FSH levels help indicate if a woman has entered menopause and will rise when a woman has entered menopause. For men, this test is used to evaluate sperm count and helpful with diagnosing primary testicular failure. Children may also be tested when they are not entering puberty at an appropriate age, either too early or too late.
