Luteinizing hormone (LH) is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland in both men and women. In women, LH regulates menstrual cycle and egg production. In men, LH stimulates the production of testosterone which is related to sperm production. This test measures the amount of LH in the blood and is used to assess fertility issues, function of reproductive organs, detect ovulation, and evaluate pituitary function. It assists in evaluating puberty in children.
