Symptoms from chlamydia and gonorrhea are often not noticeable and, if untreated, may cause reproductive and other serious health problems. Thus, the US Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommend annual screenings for sexually active women. The CDC also recommends that men who have sex with men have annual screening. Heterosexual men with no symptoms do not need routine screening, however, sexually active men should consider periodic screening if they have multiple sex partners or there is a high indices of infection in their area. Screening for, diagnosing, and treating chlamydia and gonorrhea is essential in preventing complications and spread of these infections. Typically, these tests are ordered along with the Trichomonas screening as these STDs often occur together. Preparation

Do no urinate within one hour prior to collection. Female patients should not douche, cleanse the labial area, or use vaginal creams, prior to providing the specimen and should not use douche or vaginal creams.
