Symptoms from chlamydia are often not noticeable and if it goes untreated, it can cause reproductive and other serious health problems. Thus, the CDC and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommend annual screening for sexually active women. The CDC also recommends that men who have sex with men should have an annual screening. Heterosexual men with no symptoms do not need routine screening, however, sexually active men should consider periodic screening if they have multiple sex partners or there is a high indices of infection in their area. Typically, this test is ordered with the Gonorrhoeae and Trichomonas testing as these STDs often occur together. Preparation

Do no urinate within one hour prior to collection. Female patients should not douche, cleanse the labial area, or use vaginal creams, prior to providing the specimen and should not use douche or vaginal creams.
