The thyroid is an endocrine gland that controls metabolism and secretes hormones needed for growth and development. Thyroid-stimulating immunoglobulin (TSI) is an autoantibody that acts like TSH and triggers the thyroid gland to produce more thyroid hormones than necessary. This test measures the levels of TSI as an indicator of Graves' disease which is one of the most common causes of hyperthyroidism.
